ALBANY, NY – Five different champions were crowned and two High School Divisions were showcased this past weekend at the ninth Northstar Capital City Classic, a youth and scholastic-age tournament hosted by Summit Lacrosse Ventures at the beautiful University at Albany campus June 24th and 25th.

“We created Northstar Lacrosse to offer valuable opportunities for the next generation of athletes to compete” said Summit CEO and President Ashley Gersuk Murphy, who was a standout at nearby Albany Academy for Girls before heading off to star at Northwestern University as a four-year Team Captain and All-American goalie.

“We have been fortunate to work with Albany’s Coach Rowan, one of the greatest players ever to come out of the Capital Region, and our partners at UAlbany to afford girls from all over the Tri-State and New England regions the opportunity to play against solid and balanced competition, on collegiate-level facilities, accessibly located and catered to quality club programs who seek a quality tournament experience. To host the Northstar Capital City Classic in my hometown, which set me up for great success as a young student athlete, is a great pleasure.”

Rain was consistent on Saturday, but the girls pressed on and were rewarded with a sunny, albeit toasty, Sunday. The University at Albany campus and fields provided the perfect backdrop for the 10U-High School players to impress, and they delivered! The competition was hot, the camaraderie high, and the games were exciting. Overtimes, last second game winners, and tough battles were at the forefront of a very competitive weekend.
